Location: Sackler classroom, Sublevel 2
Free; first come, first served; for groups 8+, see Note
(ages 8-14 with adult) Discover the beautiful textiles and accessories worn in the Mughal court by looking at artworks in the MURAQQA` exhibition. Then return to the classroom to use antique Islamic printing blocks to print in gold on a T-shirt or scarf. Bring your own solid-colored T-shirt or scarf, or purchase one for $3 in the classroom while supplies last.

Iraqi-born musician Rahim Alhaj performs on the 'ud accompanied by Souhail Kaspar on percussion. Alhaj earned a Grammy nomination in 2008 for his CD When the Soul is Settled: Music of Iraq, released on the Smithsonian Folkways label. He studied at the famed Baghdad Conservatory under the late Munir Bashir, who was perhaps the greatest 'ud master of the 20th century.
Note: Free tickets (up to 4 per person) can be reserved in advance through Ticketmaster at www.ticketmaster.com or by calling 202-397-7328 or 800-551-7328 beginning at 10 AM two Mondays before the event. A handling fee is applied. Tickets (up to 2 per person) will also be available at the auditorium door 1 hour before the event begins on a first-come, first-served basis.
