The museum spreads the holiday spirit with "Home for the Holidays," a musical program featuring holiday music from 1940s wartime America. Learn the stories behind the most beloved American holiday musical classics and what they reveal about the nation during World War II. Then join in the sing-along while reflecting on the meaning of the holiday season.

Family Performance The Origin of the Milky Way
Storytelling, with book signing
(for ages 9 and up) Cherokee storyteller Freeman Owle reads from the recently released The Origin of the Milky Way and Other Living Stories of the Cherokee, a collection of 27 stories shared by well-known storytellers of the Eastern Band of Cherokee in North Carolina that have been compiled and edited by Barbara Duncan. The stories are about how things came to be, lessons of life, and the plants and animals. Book signing follows.

Youth Arts Program
(for ages 5-10 or ages 10-14, accompanied by an adult; see above for times) This series of two-hour art classes are designed for youth to better understand the work of women artists whose portraits are featured in the exhibition Women of Our Time: Twentieth-Century Portraits. Registered participants take a guided tour of the exhibition and then create their own pieces based on ideas from American folk artist Grandma Moses.

Family Performance Lecture ZooLights
2nd Annual Winter Lights Celebration
(for all ages) The Zoo's second annual winter lights event is bigger and brighter this season! Some 50 larger-than-life light sculptures, using environmentally friendly LEDs (light emitting diodes), light up the Zoo. Many of the sculptures are based on animals at the Zoo, including the giant pandas, Asian elephants, tigers, and golden lion tamarins. Visitors of all ages can sample hot chocolate, cookies, cider, and other treats; meet animal keepers and learn about the Zoo's enrichment efforts; enjoy musical and theatrical performances; and learn how to save energy at home.

Notes:
Tickets required for ages 2 and up and are available as follows:
- at the Zoo's Visitor Center, daily, 9 AM-4:30 PM
- at the door on evenings that have not sold out
- online at www.ticketmaster.com, at any Ticketmaster outlet, or by phone through Ticketmaster at 202-397-7328
- for information on ordering group tickets, call 202-633-3034

• ZooLights will be offered rain or shine; it will be cancelled only if the Zoo closes due to inclement weather. For information on Zoo weather closings, call the Zoo at 202-633-4470.
