Lecture Destroying Enemy Missiles Without Using A Warhead: The SM-3,
LEAP, and EKV: Ask an Expert
James David, Space History Division, discusses how enemy missiles are destroyed without using a warhead -- by using the U.S. Navy's Standard Missile-3 (SM-3) the Lightweight Exoatmospheric Projectile (LEAP) and the Exoatmospheric Kill Vehicle (EKV), which destroy the target by crashing into it at high speed rather than destroying it with conventional explosives.
