Current and former Ward 8 community members and their families are invited to this final program celebrating the museum's 40th Anniversary and exhibition East of the River: Continuity and Change. Join the museum for an afternoon of live music, interactive crafts activities, a scavenger hunt with prizes, and refreshments. Ward 8 residents are invited to add to the museum's archive by bringing photographs and memorabilia to the museum on this day (items will be photographically copied on site and returned).

Three Sides: A Multimedia Collaboration

Today, the newly formed Native chamber trio Three Sides -- Dawn Avery (Mohawk descent), Steven Alvarez (Yaqui/Mescalero Apache/Upper Tanana Athabaskan), and Tara-Louise Montour (Mohawk) -- presents new works composed by Ms. Avery. The program also includes video by Chris Bose (N'laka pamux), narratives by poet Janet-Marie Rogers (Mohawk/Tuscarora), and a narrative ceremony led by elder Jan Longboat (Mohawk). Celebrates American Indian Heritage Month.

(ages 8-14 with adult) Enjoy a classroom slide show of the palace gardens at Nagaur in India, and then use an activity book to explore the exhibition Garden and Cosmos and discover how artists interpreted these gardens in their paintings. Afterwards, return to the classroom to create your own miniature Nagaur palace garden to take home.

The Left Bank Concert Society, led by artistic directors Evelyn Elsing and David Salness, performs works by Luigi Dallapiccola, Maurice Ravel, and the world premiere of a new piece by Lawrence Moss. The Society presents new music and rare chamber music works juxtaposed with historical masterpieces in evocative performances recognized for their ingenuity and high level of artistry.

Silent Film/Live Music: In the Land of the Headhunters

In celebration of American Indian Heritage Month, today's program is sponsored by the American Indian Museum and the National Gallery of Art.
• In the Land of the Headhunters (1914, 53 min.), a silent film made by photographer Edward Curtis, has been restored to its original luster, along with the original music score. It is the first film in history with an all-Native cast and is accompanied today by the all-Native ensemble -- the Coast Orchestra -- led by violinist Laura Ortman.
